Fiction Writers Weekend was the
creation of six avid readers in the San Antonio community. The purpose was to bring Black authors to the city and present
their work to the large number of Black readers in one setting. San Antonio has seven very active book clubs interested in
discussing and analyzing interesting contemporary novels written by the many competent Black authors throughout the United
States.
Over the past two years we have hosted authors from New York
City to Oakland, California. This year’s weekend will begin on Thursday, November 4 and run through Saturday, November
6. The highlight of the program is Saturday’s “Up Close and Personal with the Authors,” an all day seminar
featuring each author, given exclusive time to interact with the community and read from their works. Our first 2 years have
been overwhelmingly successful and we look forward to the same success this year.
